Bechtel reports record year in annual report

San Francisco Business Times - 11:49 AM PDT Monday, April 9, 2007

International engineering giant Bechtel Corp. reported revenue of $20.5 billion for 2006 in its annual report.

A year ago, the San Francisco company reported $18.1 billion in revenue.

The privately held company's oil, gas and chemicals unit led Bechtel to a record year, the company said. Half the company's revenue came from outside North America.

In June, the company's Bechtel National unit won a contract to jointly manage Los Alamos National Laboratory with the University of California for the U.S. government.

Bechtel said 52 people working for it were killed in Iraq during the year.

Looking ahead, Bechtel said it booked $24.7 billion in new work during the year.

The company is led by chairman and CEO Riley Bechtel and president and COO Adrian Zaccaria.

$18.1G , $24.7G ???

How can we be the least bit worried about the measly little $60M they take out of our hide? That is $.06G, a mere 1/4 of 1% of their rake-in.

This is about the same # as the amount spent on basic science in 2006.

The Boston Tunnel clocked in at a total of $14.1G and nobody would seem to call that one a success story.
